Walkthrough

1. Final resupply at Farnorth Bank
   The cartographer checks your load four times. 'No second trip. Whatever you forget here, you summit without.' She signs the flag pole over to you.
2. Reach the Timberchill base camp
   Base camp is three tents and a wind wall. The other two climbers are already on oxygen. The cartographer takes the lead rope and waits for you to clip in.
3. Drill the rope team at the yard
   You run the team through the arrest drill until the slowest climber can stop a fall in under two seconds. The cartographer calls it good and pulls the ropes in.
4. Cut hardy moss at the patch
   The patch is the last green thing you'll see for a week. You cut enough to pack the boots and line two of the sleeping bags. The cold is already through your gloves.
5. Survey the lower ridge
   You pace the ridge above the expedition cairn and log three new bearings. The cartographer writes them in on the master chart. One bearing was wrong by half a mile.
6. Break the lower pack
   The pack came over the col at first light. The lead went down to a thrown spear and the rest broke. One of the climbers took a bite through the calf and kept moving.
7. Stop at Farnorth Bank for fuel
   The clerk hands you a sealed kit. The next push is yours.
8. Re-imbue the sigil chain
   You drop back one camp to top the sigils up at the font. The cartographer says nothing while you work. Both of you know the weather window is shrinking.
9. Pick the summit line
   You walk the last unmapped section before the col. The line goes up a sixty-degree slab and across a knife ridge to the cairn. There is no second option.
10. Drive off the upper pack
    The upper pack came down the ridge against the wind. You took the big one at the rope step. The rest didn't follow.
11. Rope up for the summit push
    You set the team for the last pitch in the yard's lee. The cartographer hands you the flag. 'I get us up. You plant it. That's the deal.'
12. Bring the cartographer down
    The flag is planted. You brought the cartographer down on the rope. The camp log gets her name and the date.
