The Sootstep Raid

An orc raid moves on a settlement and must be cut apart before it arrives.

Requirements

Brief with the watch at Sootstep Bank
The watch captain spreads a smudged map on the counter. 'Raiding party of fifteen, maybe twenty. They came down through the crater two days ago and they're not slowing down.'
Track the raiders along the trail
The trail is wide enough for three abreast. They aren't hiding. You count cookfire pits at every rest stop. Big eaters.
Set the ambush in the grove
The grove narrows the road to single file. You wedge pit traps under the leaf cover and lay a cut log across the bend. Half of them go down before the rest figure out what hit them.
Drop the raid captain
Their captain came over the log swinging a two-handed axe and screaming. He stops doing both. The rest scatter into the trees without him.
Report back to the watch captain
The captain hears you out and pours two cups. 'Their captain answered to someone. They don't move in numbers like that without a warlord. You'll want to find him before he sends a bigger one.'
