Walk the archive shelves
The prospect master pulls a leather folio off the third shelf. 'Foundry ran a hundred and twelve years. Shut after the last master died. Bellows still work, far as anyone knows.'
Cut foundry firewood from the meadow
Hardwood, dry, the kind that takes a long burn. You shoulder a bundle and head for the foundry. A cold forge eats wood faster than a hot one.
Light the foundry forge
Dust sheets come off. The bellows wheeze, then catch. Within an hour the forge is roaring louder than any anvil in three towns. The sample finally glows.
Report the fire is lit
'The foundry's burning again? Then you'll want the master's blueprint. He sealed it in the Ironice vault before he died. Nobody's opened that vault in a hundred years.'
