The Master's Blueprint

Crack the Ironice vault, put down its wardens, and lift the master smith's blueprint.

Walkthrough

1. Get vault clearance in Ironice
   The banker doesn't blink. 'Sealed since my grandfather's time. Nobody asked, nobody opened it. You want the key, you sign for what's inside before you see it.'
2. Cut the vault key from quarry stone
   The key isn't metal. It's a wedge of fitted stone, cut to the lock's plate. The old quarry foreman shapes it in twenty minutes and won't take payment.
3. Brace yourself in the yard
   Old soldier at the yard watches you stretch. 'Vault wardens don't tire. You will. Pace yourself or you won't make it past the second hall.'
4. Sharpen tools at the smithy
   The smith hones your blade and your pick on the same wheel. 'A vault this old, you'll need both. Cut what fights you, cut what doesn't.'
5. Pack rations for the descent
   The cook hands over hard bread and salted lobster. 'Eat slow. The vault air's thin, and you don't want to come up too fast on a full stomach.'
6. Enter the vault through the quarry shaft
   The shaft drops into a stone corridor that doesn't match the quarry above. The walls are dressed. Someone built this on purpose and meant for it to stay shut.
7. Put down the first warden
   It came out of the wall like it remembered being there. You break it apart and the corridor goes quiet. The seal at the next door is still cold.
8. Put down the inner warden
   The inner warden was flesh, not shade. It had been down here so long it had forgotten the sun. You put it down and it stays down.
9. Bring the blueprint to the smithy
   The smith unrolls it on the bench under three lamps. 'This is the master's hand. Forging steps, heat curves, hammer counts. He calls the metal starfallen. Vein's under the mountains.'
10. Log the blueprint with the banker
    The banker stamps the registry and slides a copy back to you. 'Yours, by the signature. The original stays here. Whatever you forge from it, you forged from scratch.'
