Icevein Frozen Seam

A miner found a seam that smells wrong. Confirm it is what it looks like.

Hear the miner's report
'I been digging this hill since I was twelve. Hit a seam Tuesday that smells like rotted iron and tastes like nothing. I want a second pick on it before I tell the foreman.'
Read the prospector's notes
The prospector's ledger has the new seam circled three times in red and once in black. The note next to it reads only: 'not iron. not platinum. don't tell Henrik.' Henrik is the foreman.
Strike the strange seam
The platinum at the mouth comes out clean and warm. The deeper seam comes out cold and stains the pick black. You wrap a sample in oilcloth without touching it with bare hands.
Compare against clean ore
You hold the new ore beside fresh titanium from the upper vein. The new one weighs half what it should. The miner spits on the floor and crosses himself. 'Whatever that is, it's not for digging.'
Seal the sample in the vault
The banker locks the oilcloth in a strongbox without asking what's inside. 'Henrik doesn't need to know. You don't need to know either. Take the coin and forget the colour of it.'
