Giantkeep Pinnacle View

Chart the pinnacle and route home before the weather turns on you.

Requirements

Take the route from the cartographer
'No one's charted the pinnacle in eleven years. Last man who tried came down a finger short. You climb, I'll mark.'
Sight the approach line
You set the cartograph table on the lower bluff and shoot lines at three peaks while the light holds. The middle peak isn't where last year's chart says it should be.
Pack rations for the climb
The cook fills your tin with cured fish and a wedge of hard cheese. 'Eat it cold. The wind eats fires up there.'
Re-sight from the saddle
The saddle below the pinnacle is sheet ice in a year as cold as this one. You re-shoot the middle peak from here. The chart was off by a hundred yards.
Stand on the pinnacle
You stand on the cap stone for the count of forty. You can see the inland sea, three valleys, and a column of smoke past the western range.
Hand the sheet to the cartographer
She unrolls the sheet, looks at it for a long minute, and pours you a cup of something that burns. 'Smoke past the western range. I'd ask what you saw, but I don't think either of us wants the answer.'
