Frostgate First Thaw

A Frostgate surveyor wants the southern thaw line mapped before it locks again.

Requirements

Meet the surveyor at Frostgate Bank
'Thaw line moves a foot a day until it doesn't. I need it on paper before it locks. Two markers, one circuit, back by dark.'
Plant the first marker at the survey
You drive the stake in past the last patch of bare ground. The ice creaks under your boot. You walk the line south and keep the rope taut.
Bring the readings back to the surveyor
The surveyor copies your figures onto her chart and grunts. 'Faster than last winter. The line will be at the gate by the new moon. Good work.'
