The Drypocket Beholder

A savage beholder watches the Drypocket crystal at night and two scholars have not come back.

Walkthrough

1. Meet the senior scholar at Drypocket Bank
   'We lost two students to that thing already. It sits at the crystal and watches. The third student who tried to flee was found facing the wrong way. Find it and end it.'
2. Approach the Drypocket Crystal
   The crystal hums. The beholder isn't here, but the air around the crystal is bent the way water bends over a hot stove. It's been watching from somewhere else.
3. Track it into the wilds
   The wilds thin out into bare rock fifty paces in. You find the beholder hanging in the air over a dry pool, watching its own reflection. It hasn't blinked.
4. Slay the savage beholder
   It saw you in three directions at once and still went down. Whatever it was watching for, it didn't see you coming the way it expected.
5. Wash at the Drypocket Font
   The font priestess rinses your eyes with three passes of cold water. 'You looked at it too long. Another minute and you'd have come back facing the wrong way too.'
6. Return to the scholar
   She closes the missing-student ledger and pours two cups. 'Two students dead, one beholder ended. That's a bad ledger but it stops bleeding. Take this.'
