Walkthrough

  1. Meet the seal keeper at Ruincamp
    'Four ancients. Four seals. The veil is thinning. Start with the cartograph and trace each one back to its anchor.'
  2. Confirm the chamber line at the cartograph
    The cartograph crew has the lich's chamber under Glowrock now. The lead surveyor signs the chart and gives it to you. He does not say goodbye. None of them do.
  3. Set the first anchor at the rift
    You read the lich's name from the chart into the rift. The rift resists, then takes. The first anchor is set. It will hold for as long as you are standing.
  4. Charge the second anchor at the font
    The font is older than the watcher remembers. It takes the charge in silence. You feel the weight of the second anchor settle behind your sternum. Both anchors will fail when you fall.
  5. Cross the outer ring
    The lizardmen on the outer ring were people once. They're not now. One of them speaks as you pass. You don't stop to hear the rest of the sentence.
  6. Cut down the first guardian
    He came at you with a spear of bone. You took the spear and put it through him. The outer ring is open. The second ring is one hundred paces ahead.
  7. Press to the second ring
    The demon at the second ring was bound to this watch by the lich himself. The binding is older than the seal. It has held without sleep for a thousand years. It is tired.
  8. Break the second guardian
    The demon did not fight at full strength. It thanked you in a language you don't speak before it fell. The second ring is open. The chamber is one corridor away.
  9. Approach the inner court
    The vampire in the inner court was the lich's last lieutenant. She steps aside when she sees the chart in your hand. 'I have been waiting for the one who would close the door. Make it fast.'
  10. Re-set the first anchor
    You read the chart back into the rift one more time. The first anchor holds. You feel it settle. The lich knows you are coming now. There is no quiet way left.
  11. Enter the chamber
    The chamber is dry. The lich is on a stone chair carved into the back wall. He is older than the writing in the first chamber. He looks at you. He waits for you to speak. You don't.
  12. End the lich-king
    The fight was longer than the watcher said it would be. The anchors held to the last breath. He fell where he sat. The chair cracked. The chamber stayed standing. He didn't.
  13. Close the binding at the font
    You feed the font the final reading. The binding closes around the chamber and seals the corridor behind you. The chamber is a grave now. It will stay one.
  14. Mark the chamber closed
    The cartograph crew strikes the chamber line off the chart. They write the date under it. The lead surveyor pours a glass and sets it on the table for the archaeologist. She isn't there yet.
  15. Release the anchors at the rift
    You read the release. The anchors fall away one at a time. The rift closes around the silence and stays closed. The threshold is a wall again. The veil is the veil again.
  16. Report bindings to the gate captain
    'All four anchors quiet. For now. The bridge holds.'
